Body and Appearance
Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Height: 5'10", weight: average. He's a bit thin, but he makes up for his slender build with a surprising amount of muscle. Not to say he's a beefcake, as he's largely wiry and decidedly not Stacked, but he's quite fit. Definitely rangy, with a weasel face and sharp features. He's broader in the neck and shoulders with narrower hips, ass as flat as a goddamn pancake, sorry lads. Length is in his torso more than his limbs. At a glance, while fully dressed, he seems a lot smaller and slimmer than he is (something he uses to his advantage in fights).
How old is he?
About 43, although technically, physically, more like 39 or 40. I like to believe he died on his 40th birthday, and three years have passed in canon before he comes back. He does spend those three years haunting his place of death so the mental age is more or less there, but when he gets his body back it's basically the one he had before he got sick with the plague. But whatever, let's not make it complicated: 43 and aging ever so gracefully (if he sees a gray hair he will scream).
Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Straight spine, shoulders back, chin up, power stance. Lucio carries himself with an air of self-importance and confidence and when he walks into a room, the aim is to be noticed and respected. He doesn't typically bother with the overly-affected high-society poise he had during his time as Count anymore, but you better believe pinkies go out when it's wine time. That said he's always been oddly relaxed and informal even in polite society because he never quite adapted to napkins in laps when eating with your bare-ass hands around a bonfire was so much easier.
How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Good, fine, nothing to note. No lingering effects of the plague, he's healthy, fit as a fiddle, and in good fighting form for his age. He has no extraordinary skills in that regard—gets winded the same as your decently healthy regular guy would. He's a tenacious little fucker though!
How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He walks around like he owns the place and wants everyone to know it. And be jealous. And wonder who is she?????
Sometimes he can be theatrical and overdramatic. Very grand, ostentatious gestures and/or overly tough posturing. Also deliberately forward and direct (ie. he will get right in your face, will casually just take his clothes off when he's being saucy, can be touchy/huggy/arm around the shoulder/punch you in the arm just for the sake of being impersonal) at times.
How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Oh, he was blessed with some very fortunate genes. Nice-shaped eyes, a strong nose and jaw, a very attractive mouth shape, good physique. Textbook Pretty, really. He would call himself a 10/10, and does mostly believe that unironically, but he's also quite insecure and very concerned about his appearance. Won't be caught dead with smudged eyeliner or messy hair (unless it's the sexy kind of messy), has a thorough workout regimen. Also, the effects of aging? Oh my goooood. He'll try every wacky skincare routine in the book to keep those wrinkles away and as soon as he learns what bleach/dye is you better believe a single silver hair will never rear its ugly head on his scalp again no sirree.
Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Pale as the damn moon. Burns like a crispy critter in too much direct sunlight. Not very many freckles or beauty marks though, and he doesn't tend to pick them up even in the summer. Lots and lots and lots of battle scars! Here are some images where you can see some of them: one, two! He's proud of them and will show them off at will.
Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Blond, bordering on platinum. There are some silvers in there but don't you dare point them out to him. It's thinned out in his age a bit, but he wears it either slicked back from his forehead or Sexily And Mysteriously In His Eyes so he manages to disguise that pretty well. It's soft, not very coarse, and he leans toward more dry than oily.
What color are his eyes?
Silver, almost colorless. No red sclera (a symptom of the red plague, which he had when he died) anymore! Also, let's talk about the eye makeup. He does the eyeshadow with cochineal pigment (essentially modern carmine—crushed beetles!), and the eyeliner with kohl. It's very much A Look, but also a cultural thing from his homeland. You will pretty much never catch him without it.
Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Let's talk about his left arm (the gold one, kinda hard to miss)! Here's a breakdown of what it looks like with and without the armored plating. It's a magical/alchemical/technological wonder in his world, one of a kind and made special just for him. He lost his left arm due to an injury and had this made in its place not too long later. The white glowing lines are "veins" of magical energy which do give off warmth; when he was sick with the plague (or corrupted by the Devil) they turned an ominous red, so they do seem to be affected by his magical/spiritual energy, if you will (however they are not a mood ring and do not turn blue when he's sad).
Theoretically his arm is removable, but I prefer to think of it as "grafted" on by magic and therefore not something he can (or is willing to) detach at will.
What are his chief tension centers?
He's old and his fuckin' back hurts.
What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
These days, it depends. He dresses more like this these days—rugged leather, reds and browns, not so much flashy gold (other than his gauntlet). He's outfitted for adventuring and fighting while still looking certifiably fuckable; the tits are always out. During a big night out, he might go for something a bit more fancy, lots of white, red and gold, high-heeled boots, shiny jewelry/adornments that may or may not include all his many war medals, and ostentatious furs, smooth gloves, high-quality fabrics.
He looooves fashion and won't be caught dead going to an event in the same outfit he wore elsewhere. His wardrobe hits just about every beat in the book, and he is categorically not above crossdressing (although he won't wear that out of the bedroom for all the jewels in Christendom... probably).
You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
I mean... you tell me. That's a swimsuit, but like. Come on.
Ok, but seriously: briefs, as flashy as anything else he wears, soft and high-quality. Also important that they're breathable and good for travel, fighting, all that stuff though. In the midst of his adventuring he's looking for something that's going to keep his junk from falling off due to critical dicksweat rather than something that looks pretty.
Speech
What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Well according to the official fandom Tumblr he has a Jersey accent so my Joke Headcanon Voice is this guy lmfao...
But in seriousness, I don't have a headcanon voice to link to at this time. I imagine something not very deep, a bit reedy, sometimes nasally (especially when he's whining and complaining). After many years of practice he's entirely conquered the harsh consonants that would come out in the Norwegianesque accent he'd have otherwise, and those language quirks very scarcely shine through. When he isn't being a spazz his voice is smooth and warm-sounding. His word choices are casual but colorful, and he tends to be animated and lively. The bigger his audience, the higher his volume.
Also his laugh is either a wicked little "he's up to something" heheheh laugh or a very loud, very exuberant Noise, the kind where you kinda can't help but look over and be like "wow, something sure is apparently really funny??"
How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Loud, and he's a fast talker. Fast talker as in he speaks with a quick cadence, and "fast talker" as in he will try to talk his way out of (or into) anyyyything. Also just gets excitable, has a lot to say and wants to make sure he says it all. He doesn't hesitate to shout, even scream, when he wants or needs something, as he's not the best at expressing himself like a normal person sometimes, but also that's just kind of what he's used to. You won't catch him simpering his way through anything; he's very direct. "I want that. Let's go there. Do this, do that. Give me that. I want you to do this."
On the other hand, he does sometimes mumblegrumble to himself about things he doesn't really want people to hear. If he's feeling awkward, embarrassed or hesitant, or when you're calling him out on his shit, he does tend to drop to a barely-intelligible mumble about stuff he doesn't like. Usually worms. Or demons. Or demon worms.
Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Lucio has perfected the art of a Vesuvian accent, which would be essentially fantasy-Italian, with some of the hard Latin of Roman thrown in for good measure. It'd be a bit mean to call it a "fake" accent, because he has lived in Vesuvia for quite awhile and could feasibly have picked it up naturally over time, but the fact is that he started imitating it from the moment he came to the area and only got better at it with practice. Can he drop it/stop using it at will? Probably not exactly, at this point; it's become hard habit. But it isn't his native tongue or language. The one that is, though, he's utterly erased traces of, although he does still speak the language.
Aside from that, he has a casual way of talking, sometimes drops his g's (talkin', walkin', etc) and overstresses his vowels, but nothing noteworthy. He doesn't tend to use a lot of filler sounds like "uh, um" etc, but he does pepper in ones that are kinda, dare I say, valley girlish... "like," "y'know," that sort of thing. He thinks it makes him sound trendy.
What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Italian (or the equivalent of it in his canon) predominantly. Vesuvia is modeled after the Italian Renaissance (and more specifically places like Venice and Florence) but also takes cues from ancient Rome, as well as Middle Eastern and North African influences. The language is probably not traditional Italian like you'd hear spoken today, but for the sake of clarity, if he ever does say something in another language, I'll be drawing from that.
His native language is a bit harder to pin down, but is essentially a mix of Old Norse, Swedish and Norwegian. They're basically Vikings, so you can take from that what you will. When I have him say things in that language I pull from all over the place, but I try to keep it as close to Norse as possible. Lucio speaks this language very rarely, and only around certain people. He doesn't want people to trace him back to his homeland and discover who (and what) he really is, so he only really whips it out if it might make him look cool and well-traveled or something. But he'd never confess to it being his mother tongue.
Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Unfortunately Lucio rarely thinks before he talks. He's actually a notoriously bad liar because of this. He'll barrel into a thought and then just get stuck with it and have no choice but to run with it, even when he knows fully well it's come out all wrong. He's not especially crafty and will say more than he means to, blurts stuff out when he shouldn't, and casually admits to things he doesn't realize without the vaguest concept that he's so far off the mark it's almost not funny. There are some things he keeps locked down, and he actually possesses an impressive skill in being able to observe a crowd of people, analyze what they're like, and blend right in with them like he belongs among them. He's very chatty and outgoing as well. But yeah... not a lot of forethought going on there. Blonds, amirite????
Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Eh, just average. His education level is... complicated, but he seems to have a pretty good vocabulary and uses colorful, descriptive language, tells interesting stories, and is good at speaking with other people. He doesn't use "big words," if you will, a whole ton, and doesn't come off sounding particularly hoity-toity, but he doesn't sound like an utter ruffian, either. Just somewhere square in the middle.
This changes when he's mad, drunk, or both. I'd say "what would his mother think" about profanity like that, but tbh, he probably learned it from her first.
Mental and Emotional
How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Lucio is... not stupid? That's the best I can say for him. He's by no means a moron, or an uneducated blathering dullard, but he's definitely not booksmart (books are fucking boring lmao). Most of his intelligence is practical and gained from experience. Part of the problem is that he doesn't often care how or why things work, just that they do. He's not an abstract thinker and prefers not to get philosophical, but also isn't incapable of deeper thought, he just... would rather not. He'd describe himself as a doer, not a thinker. When he was a military commander, his strategy was often to employ brute force, and that sort of straight-line thinking applies to a lot of his regular actions as well. He tends to oversimplify because he doesn't understand and is easy to impress (and oftentimes to manipulate).
However, again, he speaks well and behaves in a mostly civilized way most of the time, so "not stupid" is a fair statement. Just don't come at him with complicated math equations/a bunch of Descartes quotes/deep and complicated thoughts on art and literature.
Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Intuitive for sure, and if he isn't idealistic he's certainly just blithely unaware of reality at times. He tends to think that things are "as simple as that" and doesn't think a whole lot further beyond that. Part of that is just his personality—he doesn't like things to be overly complex, difficult, complicated and annoying, which at times manifests as being lazy and not wanting to work for his outcomes/wants things to be handed to him on a silver platter. He's no stranger to hard work, nor is he allergic to it, but hey, work smarter, not harder, right? Or rather... work as simplistically as possible, not harder.
Lucio has an unfortunate habit of putting his problems off and then having to resolve them in moments of short-notice desperation, which is where a lot of his bad decision-making comes from, so if he can approach a situation with advanced preparation, he's definitely a lot more likely to make a good, well-thought out call. When planning ahead, he focuses on practical needs to accomplish what he's setting out to do and doesn't tend to get lost in the details. If the plan goes awry, he's adaptive, but operates entirely on instinct at that point, and that can be hit or miss depending on the situation.
What kind of education has the character had?
It's hard to say. Traditionally Vikings didn't have "schools," so the Scourge likely wouldn't either, but were taught by their parents and other elder, authority figures in the village as they came of age for picking up trades and skills. Boys often learned from their fathers (hunting and manly shit) and girls (cooking and homemaking) from their mothers, but Lucio would have been an exception in some ways to that seeing as his mother was the chief of their tribe and pulled her weight a whole lot more than his father did. He knows how to read and write, and do basic things anyone should know how to do, but he was absolutely not schooled on world history, science, math, all that crap. They were a nomadic people surviving in a taiga by raiding other tribes and presumably stopping trade carts and ships like their historical counterparts, he really had no need for Wuthering Heights. All of his learnin' would have been centered around staying alive, killing people, and stealing stuff.
What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Fighting and combat—he's a very skilled fighter and was once a military commander at the peak of his career as a mercenary, with a good enough reputation that the Count of Vesuvia at the time relied on him enough to hire him for what was presumably a very important battle (seeing as that victory is what eventually made him Count himself). He has a pretty expansive knowledge of various weapons and tools, most notably a sword, but also spears, axes, bows and the like. He's also pretty good hand to hand, although his small size and unfair advantages (that golden arm of his is unnaturally strong—not punch through concrete walls strong, but it packs a wallop) often lead him to fight dirty. As a leader in battle, he would have had to have some talent for strategy and tactics, but I'd be hard-pressed to picture him doing a whole lot other than a full-force frontal assault most of the time.
Lucio is also skilled in survival, particularly in cold and snowy environments. He knows how to track and hunt, use traps, make fires, all that. He's somewhat well-traveled and knows his way around a few different sorts of biomes, but blizzards and knee-deep snow was the norm where he grew up, and even if he hasn't been back there in many years, the knowledge stuck with him.
He's also a bit of a social chameleon and knows how to make himself seem as though he belongs somewhere when he doesn't. It lets him get away with all kinds of shit and find out all kinds of information, but he's really not the spies and subterfuge type; he uses that talent socially (and also to run away from his problems and establish himself somewhere else when the situation calls for it).
He's into fashion and would make a great beauty guru, so he's definitely interested in learning the style trends wherever he happens to go. He'd also like to learn more about treasure hunting the legit way. He collected a lot of jewels and artifacts in his time as Count/a warlord, but scarcely knew what most of it was. Truly a holdover from his upbringing, pillaging and scavenging whatever he wanted regardless of whether he really needs it. Being able to identify those things would be pretty cool, and also... maybe going about getting them in a cool adventuring way, not a "killing people and taking their shit" way?
Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Very extroverted. Lucio doesn't possess a shy bone in his body and doesn't get flustered easily. He's confident when approaching other people and always assumes he's welcome. He does have a knack for being charming and even a little bit disarming when he approaches people he wants to get to know. That isn't to say everyone always likes him immediately... not everyone cares for his loud, forward, over-the-top personality and self-absorption. For as up his own ass as he can be at times, though, Lucio is genuinely interested in other people and their experiences. He's fascinated by other cultures, languages, and customs and especially enjoys meeting other high-class bitches with fancy-pants stories to tell, as well as other tough adventurers who want to have brag-offs about the beasts they've slain and stuff like that.
Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
If all is going well, he has a pretty good attitude. Upbeat, optimistic (sometimes to a fault), enthusiastic, fun-loving. He's not a high-stress guy and doesn't sweat the details. He's got a live-and-let-live motto; don't fuck with him and he won't fuck with you. He's not prone to bouts of sadness and regret and will generally let go of the things that are bothering him (oftentimes by ignoring/avoiding the problem). He loves to have fun, and he loves to see other people having fun. He hates to be alone, so you won't catch him partying by himself—he wants to be where everyone else is! He's the life of the party in the sense that he is absolutely wild and can't be bothered to care how it comes off, one of the few situations in which appearances aren't important to him.
That said... he does have a temper. When things aren't going his way, he can be absolutely nasty. Screaming, stomping around, lashing out, treating people like utter crap. He can and will have full-blown tantrums complete with whining, complaining and guilt-tripping, and is just... fucking way too old for that type of behavior, but you know. His ego is sensitive and he can be quick to rile up when you insult or challenge him. He's fiercely competitive and always wants to be the best.
How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Confident, whether he should be or not. He doesn't take a lot of time to over-analyze before he approaches someone or something. If it's a person, he talks to them, confronts them, whatever. He isn't anxious or self-conscious, and any of those things that he does feel he keeps buried deep down inside. He can come off as an airhead sometimes in the sense that he acts as though he has absolutely no clue why in the world anybody wouldn't like him instantly upon meeting him, and that attitude can work for or against him depending on the situation. Attitude is everything, but not everybody is going to accept you all of the time, you know. When it comes to situations and predicaments, he tends to just jump right in and get his hands dirty. Has he bitten off more than he can chew? Eh, well, we'll deal with that later. There aren't many occasions where he'd take a look at something, think I can't do that and nope out, but they do exist.
Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act. And then keep on acting even after he really should've stepped back to think a little bit, like, yesterday. And then stop when he's knee-deep in Problems, look around, say "oh shit" and keep on acting to try and get himself back out of it, when all he's probably really doing is digging himself deeper. God, somebody please help this poor idiot man.
Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight! Although he is absolutely not above fleeing a situation as he does have a good number of cowardly bones in his body. It depends on whether he thinks he can win or not, but at the late stage I play him from in his route, he has largely overcome the impulses to run from and avoid his problems. He faces his challenges head-on, sword drawn, and he doesn't give up, nor does he want anyone to fight his battles for him. He can do it! Let him do it. He needs to do it, or else he'll fall back into old habits again.
Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
All kinds of shit makes him laugh, honestly, he's just a good-time chucklefuck that loves to laugh and goof around. That said, while he will absolutely titter with the rest of the nobles at their fancy-schmancy big words anecdotes, he... doesn't really get that kind of humor and is basically just faking it to fit in. His type of humor is a lot more juvenile. Think America's Funniest Home Videos. Also cat videos. And stupid memes. Do not be fooled by any sort of classy presentation whatsoever—crude, inappropriate vulgarity is hysterical to him.
What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Well, it all started on his eighteenth birthday...
Honestly, Lucio is the sort of character that learned the most from his mistakes, but only well after the fact. In canon, when he isn't confronted with owning up to what he's done wrong in his life, he goes full Bad Guy sometimes to the point of becoming downright evil and corrupted. Most of these things he did were done out of ignorance and desperation (see that remark about looking at where he is, saying "oh shit" and then digging himself a deeper grave), but he really desperately needed his nose rubbed in his oopsies and to be scolded for it, because essentially no one ever had before in his life. Even when he gave his parents the plague and murdered his father in cold blood all because he wasn't getting enough attention, his mom pretty much just let him walk for it. It wasn't dying that defined him, rather, but being brought back and made to understand why that happened to him that affected his character growth. The same for pretty much everything else. It's all in the journey and understanding why the things he did were wrong. Without that, he's nothing but a naughty no-good goat.
What does he fear?
Worms, demons... demon worms.
No, but seriously, his biggest fear is being alone and forgotten. Being a sad pathetic ugly ghost that nobody could see or hear or seemed to be all that concerned about was just absolutely crushing for him, can you really blame him for desperately making deals with the Devil to come back? (Ha.. ha... yeah... oops.) The last thing he wants is to be a misfit that nobody wants to be around, which is why he works so hard to fit in and be charming. He's also afraid of being weak and powerless, especially when it comes to being unable to defend himself or people/things he cares about.
Also? His mom, a little bit. And aging. Oh my gooood wrinkles noooooo.
What are his hopes or aspirations?
Once upon a time he would've said it was to be the richest fanciest most powerfulest ruler of all creation ever (or something), but all of that was more of a stepping stone to what he really wanted, which was just to have nice things and do whatever he wanted and not to have to struggle and scavenge the way he did growing up. Also, to have respect and lots of attention and people that like him and want to be around him.
These days, what he wants is to see the world. Try new things, meet new people, explore all the things he missed out on while he was busy building up a palace he didn't need to live in back in Vesuvia. That's not to say that he doesn't want to ever settle down again, get hitched, have kids, carve out a life somewhere? Sure, that'd be nice. But the next great thing is always just around the corner and it'd just be a shame if he missed it!
What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
His origins, for the most part. It's kind of an odd dichotomy, how badly he doesn't want anyone to know where he comes from or what his life was like there versus the fact that he actually doesn't hate the Scourgelands entirely or the culture, etc. It's true he was never a fan of the miserable cold and the difficult, unglamorous life they lived, but he does still respect a lot of the customs and the lifestyle. A lot of behavior he tends toward is unwittingly a reflection of his upbringing, in that his tribe in particular were notorious for consuming everything around them for their own—survival of the fittest, if you can't defend it you don't deserve to have it, that sort of thing. In some ways Lucio finds the culture outside of the South to be strange, but he has come to realize that most of civilized society would find him and Scourge traditions to be the strange ones, so he prefers to keep that hidden from others.
Some particular examples of what, specifically, he doesn't want people to know when it comes to that include the pagan rituals, their gods and how they worshipped them, and especially how barbaric or primitive, if you will, their lifestyle was. Living in huts and hunting with handmade spearheads dressed in animal leather dancing around a bonfire doesn't exactly fit the image of a rich and glorious hero decked out in gold and fancy fur, does it? Yyyyyeaaah. This isn't as much of a problem now that Lucio's less obsessed with vanity and prestige, but he still prefers to give people the impression that he was born royalty—you know, fancy royalty with a crown and stuff—and came out of nowhere to fuck shit up rather than. Yeah.
And yet he still wears that eyeliner...
Relationships
Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Uh... it's complicated. Lucio's mother, Morga, is/was the leader of their tribe known as the Scourge of the South, and was always fiercely protective of him on top of just being fierce in general. As a kid Lucio had a weak constitution, and just didn't really come into his warrior's spirit until much later in life, which should have meant death for him, really, either from the elements or something else. However, Morga sheltered and spoiled him and allowed him to get away with, as it would later turn out, literal murder. He and his mother were close; Lucio was (and still is) a gigantic mama's boy. But he also was a bit afraid of her, mostly out of respect for her ruthlessness and indomitability. On the other hand, he looked down on his father Lutz for not pulling his weight as much as Morga did and described him as "only being in it for the meat." Their relationship isn't as clear, but it seems Lutz also allowed Lucio to get away with more than he should have and didn't do his due diligence by him as a strong father figure, or as a leader in the tribe.
As Lucio got older and still failed to face his challenges in favor of falling back on the overprotection of his mother and the general high status he enjoyed as "prince" of the tribe (nobody would dare say shit to him for fear of crossing Morga, so he could be as much of a brat as he wanted), tensions rose between himself and his parents and ultimately culminated in him having a tantrum when he came of age and wasn't immediately given leadership of the tribe (and also a crown to wear on his head, very important). In a fit of rage typical of any normal teenager, he struck a bargain with a demon to kill his parents, only managed to murder his father, and then got run out of the Scourgelands in a very "run, Simba" fashion by Morga.
By the end of his route, Morga has tracked Lucio down and confronted him about what happened with Lutz, and they worked out the majority of their differences in that regard. It's always going to be a sore spot between the two of them, but they agreed to put it behind them to address the more pressing issues at hand. When Lucio was in trouble, Morga jumped in to defend him and buy him time, so she's still clearly on her bullshit puppyguarding her baby at least occasionally. They seem to have a better relationship, with Lucio talking about going home just to visit her. He's still afraid of her juuust a bit, but more than that he's determined to prove how capable he is, and that he can do things on his own after all. Mama raised a late bloomer... a very late bloomer.
Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
None, and thank god honestly because he would have probably murdered them, too.
Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
None besides, now, just his mom. There aren't really a lot of big families in the Scourgelands. Too many mouths to feed, not enough food, also the part where parricide is culturally appropriate and even expected, y'know. No biggie.
Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Yes, he would consider Nadia and her family to be his extended family still, even though they're technically no longer married. It's not particularly clear how well he knows her sisters/parents and what they think of him exactly (aside from the issue of him being a villain in other routes), but it's prooooobably a good bet that they don't think much of him. But that's fine, because he likes them and thinks the entire Satrinava family is a hoot. He'd do anything for them in a heartbeat.
Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
He doesn't really have a best, closest friend, other than the Apprentice at the end of his route. Funnily enough in spite of being so personable, he actually really lacks a lot of deep, meaningful relationships with others. He's got an unfortunate tendency to burn bridges in a bad way.
Does he have other close friends?
At the end of his route he's much closer to the other characters, particularly and most visibly Asra and Nadia. Possibly Julian as well, and by extension maybe Portia. And kinda Morga, maybe? I'd hesitate to call him "close" to any one of those people, especially the latter three, but in Asra and Nadia's case, the two of them saw his efforts to be a better person and make things right firsthand, they fought the Devil together, and they've spent time together since. He's known Asra for a long time, and he was married to Nadia, so he knows them both well. He thinks they're close, at any rate.
Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
He does get on with people well, and I'd even go so far as to say he makes friends pretty easily provided they aren't put off by how he is at times, but he does seem to fail to form very tight relationships with others. He's the sort of person who has many, many acquaintances, even people he could call on for favors, but very few people he would consider close, trusted comrades. Funnily enough he'll refer to just about everyone as his friend, even people who can't fucking stand him, to the degree that he looks like a dumbass being chummy to someone who looks like they want to punch him in the face. He... tends to just casually ignore that, if he even notices at all. You can always win 'em over eventually, right?
Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Friends, but they're honestly kinda interchangeable. He doesn't have a strong understanding of the "found family" trope because the concept of family is, uhhh, complicated, but he'd be into the idea if you explained it to him.
Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He was married, and while he isn't divorced, his marriage was technically kinda... annulled? On account of being dead and all. Fortunately the both of them are cool with that. Just don't ask him to explain how that all happened.
Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
HONESTLY? PROBABLY HIS MOM LMFAO. WHAT A LOSER.
Anyway Lucio gets crushes on everyone and everything, it's really easy to catch his interest. You'll know once he starts being really, really nice to you and spoiling you with shit you never asked for and probably don't want. He'd take a ficus out to dinner and tell it how lovely its branches are just because a breeze made them wave in his direction.
What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Likes to have fun, isn't a total stiff or a whimpering baby that can't do anything themselves, is willing to listen to him brag and talk himself up, thinks he's cool, doesn't ask too many invasive questions or overthink things. Someone with an adventurous spirit and worldly experience that can keep pace with him and compliment his strengths, but also (he won't admit to this part, but) call him out on his weaknesses. Ultimately he just wants to feel like he can be himself around this person, without constantly feeling like he has to fake his personality and hide things about himself—he may still do that anyway, but over time he'd begin to show more of his colors and share more about himself that isn't just the heroic war stories and bragadociousness. That, and he'd like to be with someone who will be themselves around him in turn, too. Just a couple weirdos unafraid to be weirdos. That's the life.
Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
None, and thank god for that. He would still like to have them someday maybe—it's never too late! It'd take a lot for that to happen, though. He's not great with children and wouldn't really know what to do with one, but he'd make a pretty solid father figure and there would be absolutely no shortage of spoiling going on.
In the meantime he just sticks to animals. He loves animals, all sorts, big and small, furry and scaled. He absolutely cannot relate to people who don't like animals, especially dogs. Must Love Dogs. He's got two Borzoi hounds named Mercedes and Melchior that are in fact his pair of familiars, and also a crested cockatoo named Camio. He did also once have an enormous menagerie of albino animals, but it's not exactly clear what happened to them in the three years after he passed. He'd happily settle down with 104812948124 animals and be content with that instead of kids, that's fine. Same diff.
Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Depends on which route the others are coming from (or if I play him from a different route himself, where he is invariably A Villain Of Some Repute). He doesn't get on with Muriel at all, that's for damn sure (although he would absolutely try, and probably be sorry for it). He did make quite a lot of enemies during his time as Count for various reasons including but not limited to war crimes, acting like a selfish bitch only concerned with his own interests, and being a piece of shit and a terrible ruler.
Most notably are his courtiers, Volta, Vulgora, Vlastomil and Valdemar. The four of them are demons in disguise, with whom he made deals in the past in exchange for a part of his soul (among other very troubling things you really shouldn't ever barter with), and then never paid the piper when the time came. If he sees any of them, his first impulse would likely be to run for his fucking life, however at this stage in his route he's also not unwilling to fight them. All of them, if that's what it comes to. And for Valerius, his final courtier? Well... he's a special case. Can't really be scared of someone you were fucking on the DL for years, dig? Also, not a demon. Just a big ol' bitch.
What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Solidly bi/pan. Guys, gals, nonbinary pals, he doesn't discriminate. I feel he does tend to lean ever so slightly toward women, but that is by no means a bias to be considered in any real capacity. Almost all of the shenanigans we see (or hear about) him get up to in canon are with guys anyhow, other than the whole being married to a woman thing.
How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
It's good shit. Can't get enough of it really. Lucio is a thirsty hoe and a practiced one at that and has absolutely no hesitation whatsoever when it comes to hooking up with new and interesting partners. To be honest most of his sexual relationships have been entirely based on that—just the sex, it doesn't get a lot deeper than that. Not to say that he hasn't ever had boyfriends, girlfriends, whateverfriends etc, he was married for godsake (although whether they ever actually slept together is debatable), but a lot like his friendships, the connections don't often run very deep. When they do, though, it's intense. He's very... passionate, let's just say (he's a freak, it's wild and crazy, BUCKLE UP).
That said, clearly Lucio is capable of being in a relationship where sex is off the table, since chances are good he never consummated that marriage of his (it's up to interpretation, I can go either way on it), but it's not ideal. He went and found an outlet elsewhere—probably several, dozens, who knows how many! So if you doghouse him, expect him to cheat. And/or to not really see any reason why he oughtn't. Monogamy is... kind of a silly invention, isn't it?
Beliefs
Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Yes, and I've made him a natal chart here using estimates of his real-world birthplace and date/time, etc. He is canonically a Capricorn sun. Libra rising and Capricorn moon make pretty good sense for his personality type; you can read all the details on the page there.
His MBTI is ESTP (per the devs), which you can read about here.
Another thing of note is that while he is typically associated with The Devil as his major arcana, he has also been described as the Fool, and I've got twelve million thoughts about why he was always is and was meant to be the Fool all along, and the MC is not that you can ask me about sometime if you never want to hear me shut up. Either one suits him in various ways, especially depending on where in canon he's from, but for the Fool he is (at least up until nearly the end of his route) more reversed than upright, which plays a big part in why he turns to the Devil and other methods for answers. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON HIM AND THE WORLD TURTLE. Yeah I'm a geek about this shit, I'm leaving now, bye.
Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Not religious in the traditional sense, but he did have gods that he worshipped and did so in many different ways. I essentially equate this in a large part to Norse gods and rituals but they also do have their guardian Wyrm, Vlagnagog, that they offered sacrifices to and conducted blood magic in the name of and all that good stuff. When it comes to traditional Judeo-Christian "religiousness," his understanding is a bit limited. Undoubtedly there would be something of its like in Vesuvia and he was certainly curious about it but it's not a major focus of interest for him.
Although Lucio has almost entirely distanced himself from the beliefs he was raised with he does still in fact harbor respect for them and wouldn't take kindly to someone shitting all over their rituals and whatnot. Because he recognizes that most of the rest of the world would find it unusual, he doesn't talk about it and steers clear of the subject, but it would probably make him feel really, really good to meet someone he could talk about those things with. Someday! Maybe.
Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Not really. Anything goes. He says what he wants, does what he wants, and doesn't care who he hurts in the process. This has been tempered a bit by the end of his route, but even still, there's not a whole lot he wouldn't do or finds morally reprehensible. Even some of the bigger things like, lol, killing your parents and cutting down innocent civilians doesn't phase him, although he does at least marginally grasp the understanding that You Probably Shouldn't Do That. "Shouldn't" does not mean you can't, after all.
How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Curious mostly. He will entirely avoid engaging in situations where he would have to own up to something he'd rather keep hidden for the sake of being accepted, but it's hard to really differ from him in a way that doesn't just end in him wanting to know more about the other person's experiences. When it comes to moral quandaries, he doesn't give a shit and will say so. Get over it.
What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Funnily enough most of his prejudice is directed toward himself if nothing else. He doesn't trust people not to think he's strange and will stick his nose up at some things just to make himself look like he's "normal." Other than that, he does kinda tend to shit on poor people a lot, which is funny because that pretty much also is just his internalized bullshit coming back out at someone else. He didn't grow up with much either, so now that he has something at all, he happily relishes his feelings of superiority.
With regards to race, sexuality, etc etc though: nada. He's very eager and interested to learn more and besides, Vesuvia alone is a total melting pot of cultures, so he's had plenty of exposure.
Daily Life
What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Well now he's... fine? He works enough to get by and live comfortably doing as he pleases, but there ain't room enough in his pack for tons and tons of gold and coin! Before he went back to the mercenary life he was one of the richest and most powerful people in the world, with a lavish palace and coffers that never seemed to reach their end in spite of how extravagantly he drained them day after day. All that has gone to Nadia and he just goes home to mooch on her when he needs a Fancy Fix.
What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Currently, he doesn't really have a social status on account of traveling place to place, doing jobs and fighting monsters. Even as a child he was considered the "prince" and, insofar as anyone in his tribe could be rich and living the life of luxury, he certainly would have more than anyone. For awhile he'd have gotten by without it, but as he became more powerful and grew his mercenary army, he began raiding and pillaging to obtain great wealth once again, so that by the time he inherited his position as Count of Vesuvia, he'd amassed quite a fortune. Many fancy artifacts and things during his conquests, too, and let's not forget those bottomless coffers. He gave all that up for the adventurer life, though, and is a whole lot happier for it, in actuality. He says in canon he was never happy being in charge and felt overwhelmed by having so many people look to him for answers.
Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Wherever the wind takes him! When he goes back to Vesuvia he either stays with local friends or at the Palace to visit, but otherwise it's inns, camping under the stars, and crashing in all sorts of odd beds and unusual places. Never a dull moment.
Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Clothes, cosmetics, nice things for his doggos. Lavish gifts for the people he likes, too, although he opts more for things like going out to dinner, staying in nice hotels, and other Luxurious Experiences more than physical objects these days.
What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He's a mercenary/adventurer, and yes he's very good at it. He'll pretty much do anything he can get paid for—odd jobs, monster slaying, guard duty/security details, escort missions, battles, assassinations?! you name it, he'll do it. For the right coin. He does genuinely enjoy it, because he gets to see the world, meet all kinds of people, and live as freely as he pleases without being constrained by the stress of leading others and/or maintaining and defending his reputation. It's a good life.
What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Hunting, fishing, gathering, that sort of woodsy shit nowadays, and exploring as much fo the world as adventurously as possible. Swim in the sea, travel across the desert dunes, touch the stars!! Also enjoys playing with his dogs (and any animal he meets that isn't food really). Rough and rugged things like practicing with his weaponry and getting into fights, that too.
To kick back, he usually prefers a tavern or some kind of party—anywhere with plenty of people to talk to and potentially go home with (or pick up new jobs from). He loves to shop, see shows, go out to eat and try different foods, and will never, ever walk away from any local festival, ever. Especially not if there's mead.
What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Oh he eats like a damn horse. Big MANLY MEALS with big MANLY PORTIONS, real steak 'n potatoes guy... if the steak and potatoes are fancy and nice (although tbh he's more comfortable eating shit he killed with his own hands half-raw over a fire than he is at a snooty restaurant, and that's always been true no matter what illusion he gave off to suggest otherwise). Drinks like a fish, can put away at least a bottle or two of wine in a night and when it's the hard shit? He just goes on and on until he reaches that invisible line between "drunk and disorderly" and "literally fucking unconscious." There's nothing he won't try at least once, although he will childishly stick his nose up at veggies and things that "look gross." His favorite food is ox steak tartare, and he's also fond of pomegranates. Pretty big on fish, too—big fish like swordfish, shark, etc.
